This excursion from Sharm El Sheikh can be done in two ways.
Excursion by night Duration: 1 day and 1 night
Description:
Departure from Sharm El Sheikh at 22.00 h during the summer and 23.00 h during the winter by air conditioned vehicle. Upon arrival at St. Catherine, tea will be served. At 1.30 h preparation to climb Mount Sinai where Moses received the Ten Commandments from God to experience the sunrise. Then descend Mount Sinai and visit the monastery. (Note: visits are allowed only on certain days, please see schedule below for closing days)
Conclude the visit with a picnic breakfast and then begin return trip to Sharm El Sheikh. Arrival about 13.30 h.
Excursion by day Duration: 1 day from 7.00 h to 16.30 h
Description:
Departure from Sharm El Sheikh at 7.00 h by air conditioned vehicle. After arrival at St. Catherine, visit the monastery which is at an altitude of 1570 m above sea level. (Note: visits are allowed only on certain days, please see schedule below for closing days.)
Lunch in a 4-star hotel before continuing to Dahab to visit the commercial center of the city. Return to Sharm El Sheikh.
Important notes about this excursion:
On the mountain the weather is cold during summer and very cold during winter.
:: A heavy coat should be worn. :: Comfortable shoes are recommended. :: Climbing the mountain is not recommended for people with physical limitations. :: While visiting the monastery, sleeves and long trousers should be worn.
The monastery of St. Catherine is closed on Fridays and Saturdays and also on Coptic holidays. The Word document informs about closing days during 2004. Visiting hours from 9.00 till 11.45 h. |
