To cruise the magical river Nile has always been a romantic journey since the Pharaohs' times.
Nile Cruises attract people from all over the world especially since the late Seventies of the last century when Egypt's tourism developed. But in those times Egypt could not offer sufficient hotel rooms in Upper Egypt to lodge the large amount of tourists coming to Egypt. The solution was to restore the old tradition of Nile Cruises.
The Industry started on a humble level; but have developed quickly over the years.
Although almost 300 boats are licensed to cruise the Nile, many of those are not in service, downgraded or being under renovation to meet the highest standards. Since the beginning of the business, boats had to meet the required measurements that has been changed along the past years and at the present Nile cruisers can't be longer than 73 meters and not exceed 14.50 meters in width. With the increasing amount of tourists going on a Nile cruise, in our view, boats can be divided into 3 generations of cruises:
:: First Generation: In the years between the Seventies and Eighties the boats were of good standard with a capacity of 40 to 50 cabins.
:: Second Generation: Late Eighties and Nineties. The boats offered between 55 and 80 cabins which, of course, made the cabins smaller and cabins were built on the lower boat level (water level).
:: Third Generation: Beginning with the Twenty-first Century, Nile cruisers were built more luxurious to meet the international standard of cruisers. 30 to 40 (instead of former 70 or 80) larger cabins and more facilities on board were enhanced.
Galaxia Tours chooses the boats for its clients mainly from the third generation as the majority of its clients prefer those boats offering more privacy and more space for personal use. At times we choose some selected boats from the Second Generation to satisfy other segments of the clients.
We mainly offer boats owned by our company and at times boats of other companies where we can guarantee quality of services required and according to the budget of our clients. |
